Greenville residents following the Super Bowl halftime show will see a familiar name on the roster for the February 14, 2026, game. Jay-Z will headline the performance at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the lineup on Monday night. This marks the first time since 2019 that the owner of the company producing the show will perform in it. The partnership began in 2019 when Roc Nation agreed to advise on and help produce the league's entertainment presentations.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had one specific request when the two parties reached their initial agreement. He asked that Jay-Z take the stage himself whenever the moment felt right to him. Seven years later, that moment has arrived.
Jay-Z, whose birth name is Shawn Carter, is a two-time Hall of Famer. He joined the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017 as the first rapper to receive that honor. He entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021. He has also won 25 Grammy Awards and 89 nominations, which is the second-most in history behind his wife, Beyoncé.
Beyoncé has performed at two Super Bowl halftime shows. Jay-Z has not previously held the solo headline spot. In 2019, when the Roc Nation deal was first made, Jay-Z told Goodell that if the arrangement was about him performing at the Super Bowl, they could end the conversation now. That stance changed this week.
The rapper recently finished a concert tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his 1996 debut album, Reasonable Doubt. The tour included three sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, as well as performances in London and Paris. It concluded with sold-out shows at SoFi Stadium over the weekend.
During the recent SoFi Stadium concerts, Jay-Z brought out several guests. His daughter Blue Ivy played piano on the tracks The Story of O.J. and Dead Presidents. Other performers included Scarface, John Legend, DJ Khaled, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Too $hort. Earlier in the tour, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Eminem, and Nas appeared at Yankee Stadium.
Roc Nation will executive produce the upcoming halftime show. Hamish Hamilton will serve as the director. The show aims to add to the Emmy awards the event has recently collected, including a record seven wins for Bad Bunny's performance in February and a music direction award for Kendrick Lamar's show last year.
