The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The win places Milwaukee one victory away from winning its first World Series title. The game marked the eighth consecutive win for the Brewers in this postseason, tying the all-time record for a single playoff run.

Milwaukee scored eight runs in the fifth inning, a World Series record. All eight runs came with two outs. This marks the first time in World Series history that a team has scored eight two-out runs in a single inning. The rally began when Jackson Chourio stole second base. William Contreras loaded the bases on an infield single. Brice Turang followed with a two-run single after the ball rolled through the infield. Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, and Sal Frelick added more runs to make the score 8-0.

Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser pitched six innings for Milwaukee. He allowed just one hit and gave up no runs. Gasser faced the minimum number of batters through six innings. He is the first starting pitcher to do so in a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001. He is also the first left-handed pitcher to accomplish this feat since Sandy Koufax in 1965. Gasser retired 14 consecutive batters in the middle of the game before issuing a walk in the sixth inning.

Jackson Chourio finished the game with four hits, including a double. He also stole a base. At age 22, Chourio became the second-youngest player to record four hits and a stolen base in a World Series game. The only player to do so at a younger age was Ty Cobb in 1908. Chourio credited his preparation and discipline for his performance. He said he treated every at-bat as if it might be his last.

The Rays managed only one run in the loss. Yandy Díaz singled in the first inning, but no one scored on that hit. The Rays had led the American League with 98 wins during the regular season. They swept the New York Yankees in the Division Series and beat the Cleveland Guardians in six games in the ALCS. Despite their strong start to the year, the Rays have never won a World Series in their 29 seasons of existence.

The Brewers entered this series trailing 3-0 after the National League Championship Series. Only one team in the previous 43 instances of a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series had come back to win. That team was the 2004 Boston Red Sox. The Brewers have now won four straight games against Tampa Bay. Manager Pat Murphy, who is 67, leads the team. The franchise, originally the Seattle Pilots in 1969, moved to Milwaukee in 1970.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Griffin Jax is slated to start for the Rays. The Brewers have not yet announced their starter. Brandon Woodruff pitched the ninth inning for Milwaukee on Monday. It was his first appearance in three and a half months. He had been sidelined by a shoulder injury. The stadium, which suffered roof damage from Hurricane Milton in 2024, hosted a sellout crowd of 40,388 fans.
